CURRENT AFFAIRS OF  15th MARCH, 2023

  1. Every year on 15 March, the World Consumer Rights Day is observed with the goal of promoting consumer protection and increasing global knowledge of consumer rights and to raise awareness of global market inequities. The theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2023 is “Empowering consumers through clean energy transitions.” 
  2. In 2022, the United Nations established the International Day to Fight Islamophobia, which is observed annually on 15 March across 140 nations. 15 March was selected as the date because it marks the anniversary of the Christchurch mosque massacres, which left 51 people dead.
  3. The government has appointed Siddhartha Mohanty as the interim Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India for 3 months starting 14 March, 2023.
  4. Surekha Yadav, Asia’s first woman loco pilot has become the first female to operate the newly-introduced semi-high-speed Vande Bharat Express Train between Solapur station and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai on 13 March, 2023.
  5. Uttarakhand Government has given approval to the 10 percent horizontal reservation to the statehood activists in government job.
  6. According to Railways and Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s first bullet train from Ahmedabad, Gujarat to Mumbai, Maharashtra over 508-kilometer route will begin service in August 2026. 
  7. Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner was named ICC Women’s Player of the Month and England’s Harry Brook was named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for February 2023.
  8. The first methanol-powered buses in Bengaluru unveiled by Union Minister for Road and Transport, Nitin Gadkari on 12 March, 2023. The Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), NITI Aayog, Indian Oil Company (IOC), and Ashok Leyland are working together to carry out the initiative, which aims to lower the level of pollutants.
  9. SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station with 40 more internet satellites for rival OneWeb, followed by the landing of the rocket’s first stage booster back at the Florida spaceport.

  11. ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ won the Best Picture award and ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ won the Best International Feature Film in the 95th Academy Awards ceremony.
  12. Indian Immunologicals Ltd. (IIL) on 13 March 2023, partnered with Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA), Bhubaneswar for commercial development of a vaccine against hemorrhagic septicemia in freshwater fish.
  13. According to the ‘Global Air Quality’ study published by the Swiss company IQAir, India fell from the fifth to the eighth most polluted nation in the world in 2022. The research shows that the PM2.5 level in the most polluted Indian cities is 53.3. 
  14. South Korea and the United States kicked off their largest joint military exercises, called Freedom Shield in five years on 13 March, 2023.
  15. According to the data shared by the Ministry of Education, Bihar (61.8 pc) has the lowest literacy, followed by Arunachal Pradesh (65.3 pc) and Rajasthan (66.1 pc).
  16. The government has removed the upper age limit of 65 years for eligibility for registration to receive deceased donor organs.
